Three years of twitching....
|
My lower right eyelid has been twitching for three years, and now my lower left one has started
I don't think I'm all that stressed (I'm retired and live a pretty easy life) and most nights I get 7-8hrs. sleep. The cause of this absolutely baffles me. Any ideas? DD |

What have you tried for eye twitching?
|
Hey Twitcheroo,
What have you tried so far and with what results? Seems like there is no real clear answer out there on an effective treatment. |

Hey, I thought i had something only I have until I found this site. These darn spasms drive me batty, the Dr I go in at emory in Atlanta said the botox were all he could do. I asked about surgery and he said the only thing that would work was a very intrusive brain surgery in the back of the head. I need all my brains to remain intact, andI don't need anyone fooling around, it wouldn;t take much to push me over the edge. I have been getting botox over a year every 2/3 monthe, at first they really helped, but they seem to help less & less.
Any info or suggestions wqould be really appreciated. Thanks, Zita |

Is the twitching under the eye? I've had this for more than a week, on and off. It happens mostly when I am wearing my new progressive glasses.....wonder if they could be causing this.

I think mine must be from stress too! I never would have thought the body would react in such a way. Time to get rid of this stress.

I have had twitching under my eye now for about 3 weeks and is driving me nuts. The Doctor said it is usually caused by stress or tiredness.
Anyone else have this problem and can tell me how to stop it?? |

Eye Spams | ||

I have been having consistant eye spasms in the upper lid of my right eye for the last 6 months. Last week it started in my left eye.
I am a little stressed over things and I think that may be it, but it certainly is annoying and nothing seems to help. Frustrating! |

I've had twitching in my upper right lid for about two weeks now. It is almost constant when my eyes are open, and I am extremely self conscious when talking to somebody. I've been reading about the possible causes of stress and sleeplessness, and I guess this could be my cause too...but am not sure.

Yes it seems stress and worry is the cause. I have had this for last few weeks, in my upper left eyelid - in fact its more around the brow line and the outside of the eye. I have been stressed recently and worried over things, plus work is stressy so think that must be the problem. De-stressing in whatever way you can must be the only answer !!

I too have had this eye twitching for some weeks, under my left eye, but both my eyes have been running for the same time, I was told it could have been the pain med I was taking so I quit that weeks ago, but the twitch is still there

EYE TWITCHNG | ||

Eye twitching happens to me when I'm stressed. While there's no cure, I've found meditation during strategic parts of the day reduces the twitching to base-level. I meditate mornings at home mornings and evenings. I meditate at work a half hour before a twitch-producing event. While there's no "cure" there is twitch control management which takes discipline and will power.

I too am experiencing eye twitching. I had some mild twitching off and on over the years, but lately it has become most annoying and almost constant. Yes, it seems worse in stressful situations but I make my living dealing with other people's stress. Reading this board does not encourage me much re treatments. Maybe I need to wear sunglasses inside all the time so people will quit telling me that my eye is twitching like crazy.

Ok... try having 2 lower eyelids going at the same time.. That is me- right now..I have had the twitchin issue off and on for almost a year and a half now. I have been surfing and researching this today.. I too am on a pain med amnitriptolyne. I wonder if this could be what has been causing this? That is the only drug I take religously... Anyone else on the same med with this issue? I feel like I am winking at the computer now.
If brain tumors run in the family- could this be a sign of a BT in me? |

Going on 3 weeks | ||
|
My problem is with the area below my right eye. Started twitching months ago while I was staying at my sister's. Went away after a week. Returned about three weeks ago. Becoming more frequent and noticeable. I know that I have not been more stressed than usual so I don't think that relaxation would help me. Two possible causes I've been thinking about:
1) LIGHTING? My sister had bright flourescent bars in her bathroom. Twitching stopped when I returned home. I recently replaced ALL of the incandescent bulbs in my house with those energy efficient flourescent ones. COULD THIS BE THE CAUSE? 2) I have abnormally high levels of prolactin (secreted in pituitary gland). MRIs have shown no signs of brain tumor, but now I wonder. I HATE THESE SPASMS. |

very annoying eye twitching!!!!
|
My right eyelid has been twitching for about 6 days now and it's extremely annoying!!!! I'm reading that it can be due to stress, fatigue or a lack of sleep. I really don't feel stressed and I've been going to bed earlier than I used to. I just want it to stop!!! There it goes again....

Eye Twitching | ||

My lower left eye lid has been twitching now for almost a week. I have had neurological problems in the past. About a year ago I had problems with one side of my head tingling with no apparent cause. This eye twitching is driving me nuts. I suppose I will get used to it like I have my head tingling, which has pretty much subsided. I think I may contact an opthamologist soon. I do have a new prescription of contacts now, and I am under TREMENDOUS STRESS. I have three small children and a husband who is bi-polar and will not seek treatment.

Boy, I'm glad I'm not the only person going around winking at everyone! I've had a twitching eye for about 5 years now. When I went for my eye exam back in 2002, my eye doctor said it was more or less stress. I had lost my dad in 2000 and my mom was in a personal care home..she died in 2002. He said that was the "weakest" muscle. Well, okay I understood the stress thing back then, but I don't feel like I'm under stress now..I get at least 8hrs. sleep a night....BUT, I do spend a lot of times doing group forums (could be eye strain?) Well, now not only do I have the twitch, but sometimes when I'm reading my left eye (the one that twitches) drags completely closed and effects my vision(and try reading music when that happens!)...sometimes it even effects the muscles near my lips...now not only do I look like I'm winking at someone, they probably think I'm giving them a lopsided smile or sneer
It's driving me nuts...I guess it's time to make another appointment...but who do you call? Medical and Eye doctor? Help!!!! |

There is Hope (?) | ||

I read on the Bausch and Lomb site that gentle massaging or moisturization have been known to help. After using lubricating eyedrops I massaged the twitching muscle for about 3 minutes. I did this for 3 consecutive nights before bedtime and the thing WENT AWAY. As you'll notice in my posting above, the twitching had lasted for months (and was beginning in the other eye). This method worked for me. I still can't believe it is gone. There was no discernable cause for it. I wasn't under any unusual stress, nor was I sleep-deprived. NOTE: I used some eye cream before massaging (for fear of causing wrinkles).
