Eye Spasms....not fun.
|
My under eye has been twitching (maybe not really a twitch, but more like a spasm......my own little second heart beat) for a few months now...CONSTANTLY. It stopped for a couple weeks when I was under absolutely no stress. Anyone know what can help if you can't avoid stress? I also have two little kids, so extra sleep is not in the cards.

I've had upper eyelid twitching off and on for 2-3 years. Stress usually triggers it. A small glass of tonic water twice a day has enough quinine in it to control the twitching. It is a drug so check with your doctor first.

Conjuctivitis? | ||
|
I am experiencing an annoying and embarrassing bout of eyelid twitching; which made a recent job interview very uncomfortable.
I have chronic allergic conjunctivitis, due to being allergic to my contact lenses and God knows what else. This twitching seems to correspond to a current flare-up of this problem. Does anyone else, with eye twitching problems, wear contact lenses, or have other eye allergies or infections? |

Tonic Water worked for me!

Thanks for the tip!
I tried the tonic water and the spasms have ceased. What a relief. Still curious about the conjunctivitis in relation to twitching. |

Hello nurselady-
funny, but my lower left eyelid started twitching when I started wearing my progressive lenses for more than a half hour. same deal. now, it twitches on and off. I dont know if i need to wear them less, or more. but mine is definately eye strain, i can tell. aint too much you can do about. the eye is an intricate thing... it stinks and i hate it. thank goodness mine isnt noticeable to others, only annoys the daylights out of me! |

My right upper eyelid has been twitching since August 16 and it is September 22. I, too, am embarrassed when it happens which is about every 5 minutes and lasts about 30 to 45 seconds. My eyelashes swish out and back. My eye doctor says it is stress and he can give me a shot to help with it. I'm assuming that he is talking about botox. Anyway, he also said to try taking Claritin. I'm at a loss as to what to do. My daughter is getting married next month and he thought it might be the stress of that. But everything is under control with the wedding. My job, middle school teacher, is very stressful. New adminstration is unkind and power hungry. After teaching middle school for 20 years, I am looking to teach at a local college. Has anyone told you to take Claritin? I took one yesterday and plan to take another one today. I'll try anything!

My eye doctor also told me to drink tonic water. I've drunk bottles and bottles, no help. and what an AWFUL taste! Surely, there has to be a cure!!! This has been going on since August 16.

I have slight twitching, I stopped it for 2 yrs.
|
It has started again slightly, but I have solutions. My twitch seems to be myself almost doiing it. It feels like im making my own eyes twitch, i make the muscles behind my eyes contract ( A LOT!!). I'm trying to stop it again, here are some things i discovered.
Try to rid yourself of it! The following will either help you feel a lot better, or try to get you rid of it. Hope it helps. If you wear contacts, contact your eye doctor to see if they don't fit properly, they could easily be the cause. Try wearing glasses for a week. Or at least try to limit your contact use, wear glasses the moment you leave work/school. If you are constantly on the computer or you watch a lot of t.v. This can easily be the cause ( I use to be on the computer a lot!). Limit your use! Moisturize your eyes as much as possible. Before/while going to bed, get a warm wet towel and lay it over your eyes. This really helped me! Or put rice into a pillowcase and throw it into the microwave for a bit. Than wrap it in a towel, or wait until cool enough to lay on face. Stress and not receiving enough sleep is a huge cause I discovered. Try to relax throughout the day, don't constantly think about your problems and worries. Get sleep, you need it and deserve it! One of the largest solutions I found for myself is to not think about the twitch. Do you constantly think about doing it? If you can try to train yourself to ignore it.... (which is extremely hard, try your best) than slowly it might go away. I haven't tried to massage my muscles, but tonight I am going to try this. This sounds like a good solution. I hope this helps. I plan on adding more and other helpful hints soon! |

Take a Multi vitamin or a magnesium it will stop it !
|
The Vitamins and minerals help give you nutrients you need and are not getting from foods.
Especially Magnesium it helps control stress you can take it by capsule or there is a powdered magnesium drink called "calm" it will stop your twitching trust me I know. If I forget to take my vitamins and I'm tired or even a little bit stressed I get the twitch, but if I remember I have no problems. |

I've had twitching for about the same length of time (3 years). It's true that loss of sleep does make it worse, but that doesn't entirely explain it. I think it is related to the bags under my eyes. They, in turn, are somehow related to the flow of mucus. If my sinuses are clear, the pressure is relieved, the bags deflate and the eyes stop twitching.
So I've tried tackling it as a sinus problem, but if it is, it's an obscure one. The Ear/nose/throat specialist put me on a hay fever vaccine, but I really don't think it's helping. Anyhow, it's good to hear that others have the bag/twitch link at play. |

Cagey - Did you change the lighting in your house and has it helped?
I also have a twitch below my right eye. I wrote everything down that I ate for several weeks, but the twitching does not seem to be related to food. I have also considered light and suspect sunlight is a trigger. Next, I am going to keep a diary of my activities (indoor/outdoor, compuer time, etc). |

My Eye Twitching So Annoying!
|
My eye has been experiencing spams for a few weeks now. I know that I've been spending a lot of time in front of the computer and my eyes feel tired -- and that my sleep has been uneven. In addition, I've reduced my vitamin intake: all possible contributors. Today I tried icing my twitching eye with an ice cube for about ten minutes. I then put on my non-prescription "reader" glasses and returned to my computer: It worked for me. My "twitching" eye seems to be soothed -- and I have no more pesky twitching for the time being. May be a temporary fix for others?

The squinting info is very interesting. I have been in the sonogram program for a few months. I do alot of squinting to look at the screen. Could it be that all this advanced tech , sitting in front of screens at work and at home, We may not be giving our eyes enough rest. I will try vits , massage and rest .
